Service.

A letter from our Service Chair:

The members of One Army are dedicated to and passionate about serving others. Service consists of freely choosing to sacrifice something— your time, your comfort, or perhaps something greater— for the betterment of another. It’s deciding to put the needs and wellbeing of others before that of your own. The men of One Army seek to consistently uphold this mindset and look for opportunities to lend our strength when someone needs help.

As a core value here at Texas A&M University, selfless service is something One Army has exemplified in years previous. We have been involved with numerous organizations including Twin City Missions, The Bravos Valley Food Bank, Big Event, and our philanthropy, Still Creek Ranch. We develop our members into servant leaders through the many events we participate in and the service projects we pursue.

This year, my goal is to completely utilize the gifts that I see in our individual members to serve Texas A&M University and the Bryan/College Station area. I hope our identity rests in the good that we do, and the length we are willing to go to serve others. We want to leave Texas A&M better than we found it, and wish for nothing more than improving the lives of our brothers and sisters around us.

Please, if you have any questions or service opportunities for One Army, contact me at the email below.

Sincerely,

Brendan Hiller

Leadership.

A letter from our Leadership Chair:

The most transformative aspect of this organization, in my experience, is that leadership can come from anywhere. There is no exact definition of what a leader is and there is no finite set of skills that one must possess to be a leader. The men of One Army exemplify leadership in that way. Each member is a leader in the community, on campus, and to the other men by using his unique set of skills and qualities to do so.

Leadership development and experience is offered in many way in One Army. Throughout the year, we bring leadership speakers into our meetings. These speakers range from fathers of current members to successful business men, or founders of the organization to A&M professors. We offer a leadership retreat each semester that aims to be innovative and informative while most importantly being practical and applicable. And we hold each other accountable to grow as well through member leadership speeches, book clubs, service, and so much more.

This year, we want to focus on two main aspects of the leadership pillar. This first is to recognize and develop the “why” behind what we are doing as men in One Army and at A&M. If we can understand this, the actions we perform and how we perform them will be more intentional and more impactful. We also seek to provide variety in our leadership development. A leader can come from anywhere, so we want to represent that in the backgrounds and topics presented in our speakers and programs.

There is no lack of leadership within One Army, and I am excited to help bring that out of the members this coming year.

Sincerely,

Michael Shaffer

Brotherhood.

A letter from our Social Chair:

Being a part of One Army this past year absolutely changed my life. The friendships and relationships that you make with the other men in this organization is invaluable, and knowing that we are here for one another throughout everything truly defines our brotherhood. Each member of this organization puts forth everything they have towards this organization, and the result is a group of the most tight knit men I’ve ever encountered.

The Social Committee works to organize various events with Women’s Organizations and Sororities across campus such as mixers, crush parties, date parties, grab-a-dates, and formals. Each year, we participate in Songfest with a sorority and encourage attendance to as many outside organization events as possible. These are a fantastic opportunity to spend time with One Army Members, alumni, and friends that are always free to attend.

As social chair this year, I strive for One Army to continue to strengthen the bonds that we have made throughout the years we have been on campus, continue to bolster our reputation as an organization, and for each and every member of One Army to walk away from this year knowing it was the most fun they’ve had at Texas A&M University. One Army has been more than a Men’s Organization to its members, it has been a brotherhood of men who continue to show each other support throughout life. We’re looking forward to striving for more of the same this year.

I can’t express how excited we are for what we have in store for this year, and if you have any questions feel free to contact me at the email address listed below.

Sincerely,

Cole McKinley
